Expedition Dive Lundy Island

Harbouring corals and a seal colony in its waters, as well as nesting puffins, carpets of bluebells and a rare local cabbage plant, Lundy Island attracts most attention from those in search of peace, quiet and unspoilt nature. Stepping out onto the landing area one feels much further removed from the pressures of everyday life. No cars, only one shop and a single pub – and after only a few hours, you soon find yourself slipping into the gentle rhythm of island life.

Mission Statement

Lundy Island, in the Bristol Channel, is 18km from the nearest mainland. It is about 5km long by 1km wide, aligned north-south, with cliffs rising to a plateau at about 110metres. Lundy is not only recognized as a top UK diving destination, but also it’s best open secret: many know about the island, but relatively few have ever been there.

The island has a wide variety of dive sites from natural reefs and sea caves, submerged rocky pinnacles and shipwrecks, as well as fantastic seal diving and encounters with large cetaceans and sea birds. Due to the physical situation of the island lying on a north-south orientation, generally one side of the island is more sheltered from the prevailing wind.  This means that many sites remain accessible despite moderate or inclement sea conditions.

A short expedition for divers to observe and interact with one of the most social creatures on earth, the grey seals of Lundy Island. Established as England’s first statutory marine sanctuary, divers can enjoy wrecks, cetaceans and other marine life as well as learning about the buccaneering history of piracy of the North Devonshire coast.
