Mission Statement
The course offers a dedicated course to help divers become proficient in using their dive computers: the SSI Computer Diving specialty.
This programme is designed to enhance safety and efficiency underwater by unlocking the full potential of your dive computer, moving beyond its basic functions.
The SSI Computer Diving program covers various aspects of dive computer use, including:Â
- Decompression theory and its relation to dive computer operation: Understanding concepts like inert gas absorption and elimination, decompression models, no-decompression limits, and surface intervals.
- Dive computer selection: Exploring key features, different designs (wrist-mounted, console-mounted, mask-integrated), and the differences between nitrox, mixed-gas, rebreather, and freediving computers.
- Dive computer operation: Mastering the three display modes, understanding parameters like maximum operating depth and time-to-surface, and using the computer for dive planning and monitoring nitrogen levels.
- Diving with a computer: Maximizing its use during dives, understanding warnings and alarms during no-decompression or decompression diving.
- Post-dive operations: Accessing dive data, transferring it to a computer or the MySSI App, and proper care and maintenance procedures for your dive computer.Â
- Increased dive safety: Understanding and utilizing the full range of dive computer functions, according to SSI Dive, significantly reduces the risk of decompression sickness and helps manage ascent rates
Â
- Easier dive planning and execution: Knowing how to use pre-dive planning features and effectively monitoring your dive profile makes diving more seamless and enjoyable.
Â
- Maximizing bottom time: Dive computers adapt to your unique dive conditions, offering real-time updates and recalculating no-decompression limits, giving you more flexibility and potentially extending your underwater exploration time.
Â
- Unlocking the full potential of your dive computer investment: Many divers only use the basic functions of their computers. This course helps you get the most out of your investment.Â
