Mission Statement
Whether you’re training through PADI or SSI, the Advanced Open Water Diver (PADI) or Advanced Adventurer(SSI) course is all about building your skills, boosting your confidence, and expanding your diving experiences.
You don’t need to be “advanced” to begin — this course is designed to advance your diving. It’s a natural next step after earning your Open Water Diver certification, allowing you to continue learning while having fun under the guidance of an instructor.
Both courses introduce you to a variety of specialty dive experiences. You’ll complete five Adventure Dives, including Underwater Navigation and a Deeper Dive (typically to 18–30 metres), plus three additional dives based on your interests — such as buoyancy control, marine ecology, wreck diving, or full face mask diving.
Each Adventure Dive in the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course can also count toward the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver Course. Similarly, SSI’s Advanced Adventurer gives you a taste of multiple specialties, helping you decide what you’d like to pursue further.
It’s all about gaining experience, discovering new underwater adventures, and becoming a more confident diver — ready to dive deeper, farther, and more often.
To complete your SSI Advanced Adverer or PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course you will hone your skills by completing five adventure dives as well as developing skills and knowledge in a variety of ancillary modules. You’ll plan your learning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. For PADI there are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives. For SSI Divers you have the choice of all modules.
Advanced Core Dives (2 dives you must complete for PADI):
- Underwater Navigation
- Deep Dive
During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
Advanced Elective Dives (3 dives you can choose from):
- Photography
- Peak Performance Buoyancy
- Underwater Naturalist
- Fish Identification
- Night Diving
- Wreck Diving
- Videography
- Fish Identification
- Search & Recovery
- Computer
The other knowledge and skills you get vary with your interest and the adventures you have – photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, exploring wrecks and many more.
